Wildstorms: The Expandable Superhero Collectible Card Game features characters from the pages of some of the most well known comics including Spawn, the Fantastic Four and the Incredible Hulk. Playing to control strategic battlesites, your characters are helped by equipment, plot twists, prizes and combat cards... but your opponent has these cards as well. Action, adventure, excitement... all in a deck of collectible cards.

The game is the successor to Wildstorm: Set One and was published by Wildstorm Cards, a subsidiary of Wildstorms Comics, owned by Jim Lee, the graphic novel (comic) artist/writer. However, neither of the two games are compatible, nor is the game of (Jim Lee's) C*23, which is published by Wizards of the Coasts.

Expansions

  • Limited was the first expansion with 366 cards. It was released in 1995 with a whole lot of other CCG following the Magic craze. The expansion was based mostly on the Wildstorm universe.
  • Conflict was the second expansion with 152 cards and was released in 1996. This expansion added more Wildstorm universe cards.
  • Unlimited was the first reprint of the Limited cards, with a white border instead of the usual black. This was released in 1996 to cater for the increased demand. There are an extra 9 Promo cards in the expansion, bringing the total to 375 cards.
  • Image Universe consists of 216 cards and was sold late in 1996. It included cards from the rest of the Image Universe (Wildstorms was then part of the Image Universe, before it got bought by DC Comics). This set also included cards from Marvel's Fantastic Four and The Hulk, of which Jim Lee was then a writer of.
  • Legends (Solitaire Edition) has 290 cards, but not all of them can be used in Wildstorms. Only the hero cards from this expansion can be used in the normal game, the other cards were for the new game - a solitaire game - which fans have called Legends. The expansion was released in the first half of 1997.
  • Best of Wildstorms was another reprint collection, this time with the power cards from the previous expansions. Like the Unlimited edition, it also has white borders instead of black. Wildstorm took the opportunity to update a number of cards in this expansion. There are no booster packs available for this expansion, the starter decks for the expansion consists of random cards drawn from the 200 card expansion.

Unreleased Expansions

  • New Horizons (unreleased) was solicited as an expansion after Best of Wildstorms to be released in October 1997 and to coincide with the "New Horizons" direction that the comic books were going towards. However, the expansion was cancelled, in part because Jim Lee decided to license C*23 to Wizards of the Coast. It is not known if any cards were ever designed for the expansion.

Promos (Released)

  • Redemption Pack as it is commonly known is a special pack found inside each booster box of Conflict.
  • Shattered Image Pack - This pack of 13 cards were given out free to retailers only. It was a tie-in to the Image summer event of 1996 also titled Shattered Image.
  • Gen 13 Classic - A number Gen 13 Villians Wildstorms cards were made into the promos from this Trading Card set.
  • Promos - There were numerous other promos available from a variety of sources, including cards that could only be obtained from certain magazine and comic books.

Other Cards

  • Personalised Card - During the height of the game Wildstorm Cards also had an offer where one could send in their photo along with a small processing fee and a personalised game card would be made and mailed back. The forms were available in the various Wildstorm comic books of the time. These cards were not tournament legal.
